There has been many people that I know, that change the type of music that they like just to belong with the crowd. In my own opinion, I think that music doesn't really change who you are or people doesn't really judge you by the music you like. People won't hate other people if they like a different kind of music. Mostly, I think that people usually go for they way they act. I am sure that people might think that you like weird music, but that doesn't mean that they will hate you.
For example, some people that I know, say that listening to "Rap" music makes you a bad person. In my opinion, I think that "rap" music is kind of awesome. I mean, look at Obama, he is not a bad person and actually got to be our first black president. In one of his speech, he mentioned Lil Wayne in it. Rappers might have a gangster look to them, but they might be the nicest person that you meet. You just can't judge what they bring to the public and just think that they are bad. Also I know a lot of people that hangout with each other and they all don't like the same kind of music. So in my opinion, music doesn't really show who you are or bring you more friends.

Change to become Famous
When becoming a singer or musician, it is very hard to become popular. Every person out there have their now likes and dislike. If you become a singer, yes you would become famous, but you could become a popular one or a not as popular one. For example, in the show "X Factor", a singing contest, many people try it but only one can win. Both Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke was winners of the show from different series, but Leona seems to have more attention then Alexandra. Even though Leona had a longer time of being famous then Alexandra because Leona won the 3rd season and Alexandra won the 5th season, Leona became very popular almost right after she won. Her very first single "Bleeding Love" became very popular and Alexandra's first single "Bad Boy" didn't really show as much popularity as Leona's. I'm not saying the Alexandra is not popular because she is very popular towards the UK but in the US she didnt really shine as much as Leona.
The reason I am saying all of the things before is because sometimes even celebrities have to change themselves to become popular. For example, a popular group made of two girls name TATU had to do something alittle dirty to get attention. What I ment by dirty is showing the image that they are lesbians really got people to notice them. At first they didn't even want to do it but when the signed with their producer, they wanted them to change their image to les. and that is how they got popular. I'm not saying that they only got famous because of that, I mean their music is really catchy too. Another example is "The Wonder Girls", South Korea's most famous girl group, came to the US to debuted late last year. Back in Korea they were dancing like "The Pussycat Dolls" and those kind of moves. When they came to the US they were already hired as the openers for "The Jonas Brothers Tour" and since they were with The Jonas, they couldn't really do any sexy moves because Jonas audiences are more towards young teens and children. If they did any erotic moves then people would judge them and probably the parents wouldn't let their childrens watch them. An example of someone doing erotic moves was "Vanessa Hudgens". She was a very good insperation towards young girls, but once her nude photos got on the Internet, many fans started to not like her.
What I'm saying is that it is not only us who uses music to belong sometimes. Sometimes celebrities have to even change to become popular.

Changes of Music
Throughout our lives, music has been a very important subject for people. During the 60s, hip pop, r&b, and any type of music in that genre, was barely known. The most popular music that was listened back then was rock and roll, rythem and blues, and country music. Whenever a new person comes out with a new type of music, their styles also do change. Which will inspire people to wear the same types of cloths that he or she is wearing. For example, The Beatles really inspired people to wear suits and to have Mop top hair. The Beatles also changed the type of music also. They brung in a softer type of pop and pop-rock to the media.
For some people out there, Music is a way that will bring them friend or a place to belong with a group of people. For example, people might have to change to type of music they like if they move to another school, state, or just another place. If someone that lived in a place that loved country music and moves to another place that likes to listen to Hip pop. He would have to change the type of music that he likes. Also if he walks around and all he can hear is hip pop, that type of music would grow on him and probably someday he would like hip pop more then country. In my opinion, listening to a different type of music doesn't really gives you more friends, but it can change on how you act and look.
Back in the 60s, people were very into racisism. For example, black people only listen to black music and white people only listen to white music. Teenagers use to have to do what their parents say, but to belong they decided not to listen anymore. They decided to listen to the kind of music that they like and started to become more independant. In doing all these action, teenagers started to get more social with one another. To belong, they decided to go against their parents and started to do their own things. Some very popular artists back then was The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Diana Ross & The Supremes, and many more. People done many things to belong and music is one thing that they do.
